best show to watch at dinner

There's a TV in the little cafeteria in my dorm. The other night instead of trying to guess what the newscaster was talking about, we turned to a food show featuring three women who travel around Japan eating ridiculously huge portions of delicacies from different regions. I'm not really sure what the point of the show is: the women traded off being the one eating and the ones exclaiming and giggling and although each round of eating was timed, there didn't seem to be any time limit and there was certainly no competition between the three. One woman - who the narrator of the show reported will eat chicken bones - polished off a 12 inch diameter bowl of seafood in half an hour. The woman with a bow in her hair (confusingly, they never changed their clothes even though the episode obviously covered multiple days...maybe they're under the same curse as the Berenstein Bears?!?!) took an hour and a half to eat a taiyaki bigger than her body. This is taiyaki - it's fish shaped, fried pastry that can be filled with various creamy things. They are delicious, and it was the only round I could imagine myself doing. In fact I was kind of jealous of her.She ate one filled with red bean paste.
The third woman ate a giant plate of spaghetti - who knew this was a Japanese delicacy. Then, in a moment filled with suspense and drama, a 4 foot tall melon float, complete with three massive scoops of ice cream was wheeled out. Each woman got a straw. The footage of them drinking it showed alternating disbelief at how slowly the level of the liquid was dropping, stomach pain/gas/really having to pee, disgust, and ultimately victory and celebration.
This melon float is about 1/100 the volume of the one on the show.
The show went on from there, presumably to more feats of excessive eating, but I was done with dinner at that point. And anyway, although initially eating SO MUCH food was kind of like that dream of being locked in a candy shop overnight, it gradually just got gross. I wonder who these women are. Are they famous for something else besides eating a lot and never changing their clothes? If this show is their regular job, how do they stay so skinny? Is the woman who eats chicken bones gonna have major health problems later in life?
